The Barcelona taxi announces mobilizations against the inaction of the Government
As the Elite Taxi BCN association reported on October 3, the situation in the Barcelona taxi sector is unsustainable.
The aid that the Government promised has not arrived and this month the six-month moratorium that the banks gave to pay the loans ends.
This means that from next November, banks will begin to receive loan defaults, since most of the self-employed in the sector do not have funds to deal with debts.
This has been reported by the AMB associations in a statement:
“Because thousands of colleagues are in an extreme emergency situation and all the aid to which we have access are nothing more than loans. … It will be difficult to justify the criteria demanded by mutuals, in addition to the fact that the taxi sector is technically bankrupt and abandoned by the administrations to their fate, we have decided to take a step and call mobilizations ”.
The first of the mobilizations – because there will be more -, is called for next October 26 at 09:00 in the Venetian towers of the Plaza de España in Barcelona.
The protest will begin a slow march towards Paseo de Gràcia, where taxis will be parked.
At 10:30 a.m. an assembly is scheduled at the doors of the Government Delegation, where the administrations will be required an immediate moratorium on all loans related to the exploitation of the activity. In addition, among the requests, there are direct aid to avoid the ruin of the sector, which is on the verge of bankruptcy.
