The Barça leads once again the income by television rights

The Barcelona, with revenues of 165.6 million euros, and the Real Madrid, with 163, were the Spanish clubs that received the most money in the distribution of audiovisual income of the 2020/2021 season in compliance with the information obligations provided for in Royal Decree-Law 5/2015, as reported this Wednesday by LaLiga.

In compliance with the provisions of article 7.1. of Royal Decree-Law 5/2015, of April 30, on urgent measures in relation to the commercialization of the exploitation rights of audiovisual content of professional football competitions (hereinafter, RD) and, among others, of the article 2 of Royal Decree 2/2018 of January 12 that develops it, the Control Body for the management of audiovisual rights of the National Professional Football League has published the distribution criteria of audiovisual income.

In said publication, LaLiga has broken down the amounts corresponding to each participating entity and the amounts contributed in compliance with the obligations set forth in article 6.1.

The clubs with the highest income during the 2020/2021 season were Barcelona (165.6 million euros) and Real Madrid (163), with some negative obligations of -14.1 and -13.9, respectively.

The next clubs in that financial ranking were the Atlético de Madrid (130.1), followed by Sevilla (84.2), Valencia and Villarreal (73.3), Athletic Club de Bilbao (72.2), Real Sociedad (66.4), Betis (59.5), Getafe (58.5), Celta de Vigo (53.3) , Granada (52.5), Eibar (51.8), Alavés (51.1), Levante (50.3), Osasuna (49.7), Valladolid (48.5), Cádiz and Elche (47.3 ) and Huesca (46.8).

Thus Barcelona continues to lead this classification since the 2017/2018 season, although this time with a lower margin than last season, in which he obtained 165 million euros for the 156.2 of Real Madrid.

Of LaLiga SmartBank, those that entered the most were Espanyol (40.9), Leganés (25.9) and Mallorca (19.4), all with an amount of downgrade compensation, while those who received the least were Unión Deportiva Logroñés (5.9) and Sabadell (5.8).

In total, LaLiga distributed among the First Division teams 1,444.7 million euros for rights of television -27 more than in the previous campaign-, while in Second that amount reached 160.5.

The income obtained from the joint exploitation and commercialization of the audiovisual rights of the National League Championship (Santander League and SmartBank League) were distributed among the clubs and entities participating in First and Second Division A, in accordance with the criteria established in article 5 of the RD “Criteria for the distribution of income among participants in the National League Championship”.

LaLiga distributes the net income, which means that the management and marketing expenses are subtracted from the gross. Then from those net income, 90% goes to First Team and 10% to Second.

In Primera the distribution is made based on three criteria. 50% in identical proportion between all, 25% depending on the sporting results and the remaining 25% is derived from the social mass of each club in which coefficients enter by season tickets, box office or audience.
