The Banksy Modeste Collection: A Solidarity Exhibition of the World’s Most Famous Street Artist

In the world of street-art, he is probably the most famous and enigmatic artist. His true identity is still unknown as he painted his works all over the world. From London to Jerusalem via Calais, the graffiti artist has put his paw on the walls where geopolitical and social tensions were present.

Her style: to make the spectator of her creations reflect on the question of migrants, security, feminism or even on global consumerism and the excesses of capitalism.

To retrace his journey, the Banksy Modeste Collection is organizing a solidarity and traveling exhibition which will be hosted at Compa, in Chartres. More than 200 works and objects will be brought together there and come from a collector, François Berardino, known as Béru, an actor who collected everything he could afford from the world of Banksy. This initiative began in 2007, following a chance meeting between the two artists. It was only a few months later that “Béru” (that’s his nickname) discovered that he had met Banksy and fell in love with the graffiti artist whose identity is unknown to the general public and is rigorously preserved. The result is this traveling exhibition which started in July 2020 in Grigny (Essonne), the poorest city in France. This exhibition notably welcomed 40,000 visitors to Brest (Finistère) last June.

An exhibition supported by Banksy’s networks

“The exhibition is tacitly supported by Banksy’s networks for its free access. It is in the artist’s spirit to be able to exhibit works available to everyone. Banksy’s networks also denounce the exhibitions that are made on the back of the artist, as is the case at the Walled Off Hotel, in Paris”, underlines Sophie Ursella, communication officer of Banksy Modeste Communication.
