For the first time, the Baltic states were completely disconnected from electricity from Russia during tests to exit the BRELL energy ring, scheduled for 2025. Writes about it Kommersant.
As noted, Latvia, without explaining the reasons, stopped commercial imports from Russia for two days (April 8 and 11) during a test shutdown of the transmission line between Belarus and Lithuania as part of the withdrawal of the Baltic republics from the BRELL energy ring (Belarus, Russia, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania). The Ministry of Energy stressed that the disconnection of the transmission line between Belarus and Lithuania did not affect the operation of the Russian energy system.
The authorities of the Baltic countries in 2019 decided to abandon the supply of electricity from Russia and Belarus and connect to the EU networks by 2025.
