Everyone knows: all major powers spy on each other. So why is the relationship between China and the USA escalating now, after the balloon was shot down? China correspondent Fabian Kretschmer in conversation.
On February 4, a Chinese balloon was shot down over the United States by the US military. The Americans believe it was a spy balloon – China says: “That’s not true, that was a weather balloon.” The affair endangers the already tense relationship between the USA and China. Fabian Kretschmer explains how China is reacting to the US allegations and why now but there is a small hope of de-escalation.
