Miguel Braga, Sporting’s Director of Communication, analyzes in an editorial in the club’s newspaper, the punishments issued by the Disciplinary Council (CD) of the Federation (FPF) in relation to FC Porto-Sporting, questioning the criteria for punishments. Miguel Braga resorts to the comparison between some:
«We learned that for the CD, a kick from Agustín Marchesín is less serious than a slap from João Palhinha: the Argentine international was punished with two games, the Portuguese international with three (therefore missing the confrontation with FC Porto for the Portugal Cup). This is the same CD that punished Uribe with just one game when he violently attacked Ricardo Esgaio with a headbutt in the nose. In other words, a violent header gave the right to a game of suspension, a kick to two games, and the click corresponds to three games (three times the amount of Uribe’s header worthy of a Steven Seagal film)», writes in the Sporting newspaper.
And he continues: «Matheus Reis – the same player who was attacked more than once by elements in the blue and orange vests – has a disciplinary process ‘for incorrect gesture'(…). Certainly, the CD found Otávio’s behavior normal and commendable, who, live, insulted and consecutively challenged Bruno Tabata to a duel in the changing rooms. Let’s also remember a game from last year, in the same stadium and with the same teams, when this CD was already in operation, and where the son of the FC Porto coach spat at Pedro Porro, insulting his mother. Has the process been opened? No. In fact, the names that are called to the players’ relatives only serve to open lawsuits against Sporting players, Nuno Santos should say so. The same player who was suspended in record time for a gesture described in a report that the in-game footage belies.”
The dismissal of Coates is also analyzed, after the first yellow card was contested: «The images also scandalously deny the yellow card that will remove Sebastián Coates from the next game against Estoril. In the same move, Taremi not only stomped on the Uruguayan centre-back, but managed to fly later, rolling on the ground five times on himself, such was the pain caused by the stomping… which he gave. The injustice resulting from this caricatured and revolting move, which marked the game and possibly this championship, and which was widely publicized in the media, according to this Discipline Board, is to be maintained.
