Palmeiras beat América this morning by 1-0 and assured that they will spend the first round in the lead.
Scarpa gave the lead in the 65th minute, América missed the tie in an open shot in the last seconds, a scenario that Abel Ferreira cannot explain:
“We knew it would be difficult, América is a team that likes to play and counterattack. I won’t say it surprised me, but it took some work. I don’t know how to explain this last move, whether it’s luck or something else. I only know how to explain it in my own way, we were lucky on the last move. I assume, I wonder if it’s luck or happiness. I leave it to you to explain.”
Palmeiras have the best attack and the best defense in the league: «The secret is easy, it’s work. We started with well-defined goals and it shows our quality. Abel commented on the debut of the new signings: “López and Merentiel are players that we need to develop. Ready players are expensive. the manual [López] is very shy, we have to improve that. Miguel [Merentiel] it’s the opposite, but they are players that we need to work on.”
