Ruud Van Nistelrooy was confirmed this Wednesday as coach of PSV Eindhoven next season. The former Dutch forward, who played for PSV between 1998 and 2001 (62 goals in 67 games), has signed a contract until the end of the 2024/25 season and will replace Roger Schmidt. The German, who is in Benfica’s sights, has already announced his departure at the end of the current season.
For Van Nistelrooy, this will be his first experience coaching a senior team. The former player started on the benches three seasons ago, in the under-19 team, having been promoted to PSV’s under-21 last summer. At Euro 2020, Van Nistelrooy was part of Frank de Boer’s coaching staff in the Netherlands national team.
