THE BALL – “The Maritime is at risk of dying in sport” (Maritime)

He was president of Marítimo between 1988 and 1997 and is back to run in tomorrow’s elections. Very critical of the current leader’s management, he promises to revive the club in all areas and leaves a hard message to Carlos Pereira: «Carlos, everything in life has its time. You’re at the end of your cycle and you should have realized that.”

24 years after being president, he is running for office again. What made you make that decision?

– A group of members who love the club and have long expressed themselves against this way of leading Marítimo, who did not see themselves in the current president Carlos Pereira and in his sports policy. Faced with this huge wave of dissatisfaction and the request made to me, I couldn’t say no. I really like Marítimo to turn my back at this point. These members understood that I was the ideal person to give the club a new direction and here I am to make this change if the members want it.

– What is this change?

– New ideas, new concepts, a new way of looking at football, of hiring players. With me, everything will be different. Marítimo runs the risk of dying sportingly if Carlos Pereira continues. We cannot let that happen and this is the right time to change our Maritime in relation to the dramatic situation in which it finds itself. Marítimo stopped in time and that cannot happen. The Maritime is sick.
