Shakhtar Donetsk chief executive Sergei Palkin on Monday asked, through a statement posted on the club’s social networks, that UEFA replace Iran with Ukraine in the Qatar World Cup.
“Ukraine should play in the World Cup and Iran shouldn’t! While the Iranian government will enjoy watching its national team compete in the World Cup, Ukrainians will be killed by Iranian drones and missiles. Nearly 250 drones have already attacked peaceful cities in Ukraine.
Iran, led by Portugal’s Carlos Queiroz, are part of Group B of the World Cup, along with England, Wales and the United States.
