Nasser al-Khelaifi, Qatari tycoon president of Paris Saint-Germain, spoke today during the 26th General Assembly of the European Club Association (ECA), the first in which he presented himself as president of this body, succeeding Andrea Agnelli, leader of Juventus.
The new ECA leader fired a strong shot at the three clubs that still remain in the European Superliga, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Juventus: “I don’t want to talk too much about the Superliga because it would take the focus off what we really have to deal with. I will just say that people have tried to separate us and have achieved the opposite. They brought us together, making us stronger. As the three rebel clubs squander energy, distort narratives and continue to scream at the sky, we [ECA] we move forward and focus all our strength on building a better future for European football, united and together.”
The official also spoke about financial fair play: “We need to have financial stability. If we don’t react quickly, the consequences could be irreparable. Financial fair play must be reconsidered. We must have stronger relations with UEFA. We both believe that football is for everyone.”
