Sporting is back to the top of the Betclic League, by beating Lusitânia (91-64), in a match that was delayed from the 18th round and which took place this Saturday night, at the João Rocha Pavilion, in Lisbon.
As the result itself indicates, the lions did not have any difficulties in beating the Azoreans and at half-time they already had a 25 point advantage (47-22). Lusitânia still managed to win the third period (23-22), but even that did not jeopardize the leonine triumph, since the distance was already great and in the last quarter the partial was again favorable to Luís Magalhães’s men (22-19 ).
Amenhotep Abif (Lusitânia) was the best scorer of the match, with 18 points, having been very close to the double-double, as he won 9 rebounds. On the leonine side, Shakir Smith (16 points) was the top scorer, well supported by Mike Fofana and Daniel Relvão (both with 13), and António Monteiro (11 points and 9 rebounds) was also on the doorstep of the double-double.
With this triumph, Sporting returns to the top of the league table – from where it had momentarily left, after Benfica’s victory over Immortal (95-64), on Saturday afternoon -, now having 38 points, one more than Benfica and FC Porto (the dragons, however, have one more game). The Azoreans remain in 6th place, with 30 points.
In the next round there is a derby, with Sporting hosting Benfica (Wednesday, at 8.30 pm). Lusitânia also plays on Wednesday, against CAB Madeira, but at 9.30 pm.
