THE BALL – Sporting negotiates old dream of Rúben Amorim (Sporting)

Rúben Amorim’s old dream, winger Marcus Edwards, 23 years old, can reinforce Sporting in this winter market, window open throughout the month of January. Sporting negotiates with Vitória de Guimarães the hiring of the Englishman and the conversations can reach a good port, now that the lions are in a better negotiating position, aiming for a maximum investment never above €6 million.

Since the summer 2020 transfer window, Edwards has been considered an important target, as THE BALL reported at the time first hand. At that time, V. Guimarães, holder of 50 percent of the player’s pass – Tottenham have the other half -, asked for a value in the order of €12 M, a figure that the greens and whites did not reach. Time passed, two more transfer windows appeared and the Englishman’s name was always on the table, but it is only now that the deal can materialize – last summer Edwards was a possibility until the transfer window closed, but the departure of Nuno Mendes for PSG made it possible for Sarabia to arrive, on loan from the French, and the English deal was postponed.

Now with Vitória in a more fragile position at the negotiating level, given the financial difficulties they are going through, the conversations move forward, with Sporting being able to get the winger contest for half the amount that was previously asked by the Guimarães.
