Sporting beat Águas Santas, by 34-29, in matchday 16 of Handball 1, at Pavilhão João Rocha, maintaining their unbeaten record and leading the table, with a point over Benfica.
In the match between teams involved in the group stage of the European League, which met between games played last Tuesday and the next, fatigue was noted. The match started balanced, Sporting was losing, but managed to recover in time to reach the break in advantage by a goal (15-14).
With the defensive errors corrected, Sporting gained balance in the second half, but Águas Santas fought until the end, maintaining a short difference that only became more pronounced in the final moments.
Sporting brothers Francisco and Martim Costa scored 10 and nine goals, respectively, while Águas Santas had six goals from João Gomes.
