THE BALL – «Sporting beat FC Porto and Benfica to be champions…» (Champions League)

Pep Guardiola revealed that he knows the Portuguese League well and that he knows that Sporting had to beat FC Porto and Benfica to become champions. Manchester City’s coach believes that he will face a team with quality and that everything is open.

«Portugal has always had a very competitive league. We played against FC Porto and we understood that. It is a championship that has good teams, with quality Portuguese and Brazilian players, who end up going to Spain, France, Germany… What I saw is that they are really united, they have a good relationship with the coach, they are physically strong and incredibly fast. They were champions many years later and beat FC Porto and Benfica. They are a great team. They passed in a group that had Ajax and Dortmund, which normally reaches the quarter-finals or semi-finals of the Champions League”, said the coach.

Guardiola did not assume that his team is the favourite: “We are going to show our football in Portugal. We have the same opportunities, it’s two games and not a championship. We are ready.”
