THE BALL – Sousa and Elias leave Portugal without representatives at the Australian Open (Tennis)

João Sousa could not overcome his opponent and was eliminated from the last qualifying round for the Australian Open. The same happened to Gastão Elias, which leaves Portugal without any tennis player in the main frame.

Sousa, 17th favorite in the qualifying round, was defeated by Moldovan Radu Albot, fifth in the standings, in two sets, for a double 6-4.

Before and also in the same qualifying round, Gastão Elias lost against Kazakh Timofey Skatov, by 6-4 and 7-6 (7-5).

As for the remaining Portuguese, Nuno Borges did not even compete, having abandoned the race for having tested positive for covid-19. João Domingues falls in the first qualifying round, and Frederico Silva in the semi-finals.
