Sony will launch the PSVR2 on February 22nd. This will be the second model of the Japanese company in terms of virtual reality. In 2016, PSVR for PS4 appeared on the market and the games ran at 1080p, but it had a lot of wires, you had to buy a camera and the controls weren’t exactly the best for VR. All of this has been taken into account with PSVR2, which represents a huge evolution in all areas.

It’s incredibly easy to hook up the PSVR2. It only has a wire to connect to the Playstation 5. Then, you just have to follow the indications that appear on the television to be ready. Simple and very quick to do, because it’s all automatic. The cameras present in the helmet measure the space where you play, then you select your game space, calibrating your vision is incredibly easy. It’s surprising how something that was previously complicated has become accessible to anyone.

The question of whether or not the helmet is comfortable and whether or not it can be given to everyone. The answer is simple, anyone will find the ideal position. It’s extremely easy to put the head on and then there’s a button on the back to tighten. The display also has several positions and you just have to choose the one that works best for you.

When we turn on the PSVR quickly, it is possible to perceive the quality of the image that we will have access to. We are talking about an OLED screen with a resolution for each eye of 2k, so in reality we are going to play at 4k and in OLED, which has a sensational capacity in terms of colors and reproduces black perfectly. Also included is foveated rendering technology, which allows you to reach the maximum resolution for what you’re seeing and decreases the detail of what’s in your peripheral vision. This allows for lower performance costs for the PS5. In other words, what you are seeing directly has the best possible resolution, but the same is not true of what is in the corner of your eye.

It is also necessary to talk about the commands that PSVR2 brings. They’re a huge improvement over what was available on PSVR. They bring the technology we find in dualsense, fit perfectly around the hand, are intuitive and lightweight. And the sound? The PSVR2 brings earphones that fit in the helmet and then we put it in the ear. Again, very easy to assemble and they sound good.

Let’s now talk about some of the available games. The headliner is undoubtedly Horizon: Call of the Mountain. Returning to this apocalyptic world full of robot dinosaurs, but now being inside that universe is absolutely incredible. Without wanting to spoil the experience, the first few minutes are breathtaking. Seeing the robot dinosaurs moving around us, going over us, under us!!! That’s awesome. Climb the mountains!!! Use the bow and arrows to attack. It really is a different experience.

Kayak VR: Mirage is another example that showcases the PSVR2’s capabilities. I never thought I was at home, but canoeing in the Arctic, the Caribbean, on a river, seeing penguins on ice, orcas jumping. Play day or night, during storms, where the controls vibrate with the rain hitting the water and shake with the lightning. It’s also a tiring experience, because you have to keep rowing. Therefore, whoever buys this game, I advise you to have a cloth to wipe the sweat. Sometimes, it’s even better to put the automatic mode on and just enjoy the jungle around you or the beach or the icebergs.

Moss is a game that also shows a different experience in a platform game, where you control a mouse, in a fantasy world, and also help to reach and pass obstacles due to being inside the game. Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge is a dream come true for anyone who loves the Star Wars universe and being in the game is really different. Sometimes he even followed one of the droids just to see what it was doing and where it was going. I was in the game!

The question of seasickness that comes with virtual reality, I have to admit that I only felt it in Kayak VR, but I was also overdoing it with paddling and wouldn’t stop. When that happens, the player should just stop for a while and then come back.

PSVR2 is undoubtedly a tremendous evolution compared to the original PSVR. All those who have tried the previous version will be amazed and those who have never tried VR will be blown away by an incredible virtual world and gaming experience like they have never seen before.
