The president of Benfica, Rui Costa, was at the Damaia Ginásio Clube pavilion this Thursday, at the presentation of the 29th edition of the tournament that bears his name, and at the end he spoke to journalists about returning to his roots.
«I’m from the house, I was born in this ring playing ball. I went to Benfica, as everyone knows, when I was eight years old, but I started playing futsal here when I was five, six years old, in a club that is founded by my father and his friends, with whom I lived all my childhood. I have the greatest pride and vanity in returning to Damaia and having a tournament here for 29 years with my name”, he said.
And Rui Costa promised to give a ‘little leg’, if the schedule allows.
«Nowadays it is more difficult, first I have to defend my club, which is Benfica, and it will always depend on my availability. The only thing I asked this year was ‘don’t make game schedules waiting for my schedule as it’s not fair to everyone else’. Whenever I can, I will come back, but I can’t take anything off the agenda. The games here will always be at night, they’ll put my games until midnight or something, so I can come here and kick a ball and be close to the children”, he promised.
