Rúben Amorim will be Sporting’s coach for the 2022/2023 season. “I have my decision made. I don’t want to go out like this, I’m not going out now. I know I run the risk of being fired, I could have done otherwise, but they will have to take another year with me.” This is how the coach of the 2021/2002 season said goodbye, on the 14th, after the victory (4-0) against Santa Clara, on the last day of the championship. And, more than words, Rúben Amorim is one of convictions. The coach understands that the lion’s task is far from being completed, especially after a “scarce” year, in his own words, with the failure to revalidate the champion title.
With a contract valid for two more seasons, also protected by a termination clause of 30 million euros, Rúben Amorim, in addition to public words, made known to his closest circle, namely to his representatives, the firm desire to fulfill, at at least one more season in charge of Sporting’s technical command, before even starting to think about the next step – and the direction of it – in his career.
