Portugal will face Azerbaijan (March 24, in Turin), Serbia (27, in Belgrade) and Luxembourg (30, in Luxembourg) at the start of qualifying for the 2022 World Cup. Asked if these are propitious games for Cristiano Ronaldo overtaking Iranian Ali Daei as the best scorer ever for a national team, Fernando Santos shot:
– I’m sure Cristiano is over-motivated, not just because he scored more or less goals. He has an extra intention when he represents the National Team and I am sure that he comes with the same ambition, not thinking about personal goals, but in realizing the goals of the National Team. I know that he has a very big dream of participating in this objective, which is to play a World Cup and be able to win it. That is the main objective, the rest must pass by the National Team.
At the moment Cristiano Ronaldo has 102 goals scored by Portugal and is seven to reach Ali Daei (109).
