Recep Tayyip Erdogan, president of Turkey since 2014, has come out in defense of… Cristiano Ronaldo. All because, during a meeting with children in Erzurum, in the east of that country, they were asked: Ronaldo or Messi?
Erdogan did not reveal his choice, but took the opportunity to comment on the moment experienced by the Portuguese international at the 2022 World Cup. “They wasted Ronaldo. Unfortunately, they imposed a political sanction on him. Putting a player like Ronaldo on the field in the second half for 15 or 30 minutes ruined his psychologist and drained his energy. Ronaldo is someone who supports the cause of Palestine,” he said, quoted by the Turkish press.
And he also spoke about the player’s future: “According to the information I’ve received, Ronaldo will go to Saudi Arabia.”
