Overtaken by Cristiano Ronaldo in the list of the best scorers ever in the service of clubs, now led by the Portuguese with 692 goals after the hat trick to Tottenham, Romário congratulated and praised the Manchester United striker.
“As I always say, records are there to be broken. It is an honor to have kept that record for so long and now pass that crown to CR7», wrote on Instagram the 56-year-old former Brazilian star, who ended his career in 2008 – with 689 goals in clubs, including Vasco da Gama, PSV, Barcelona, Flamengo, Valencia, Fluminense… – and is now dedicated to politics:
“Congratulations, Cristiano Ronaldo, you will certainly always go down in history as one of the greats of world football. Achieve more than deserved!”
In reaction to the records broken on Saturday – he also became the top scorer between clubs and A teams, with 807 goals, leaving behind the Austrian-Czech Josef Bican (805) -, CR7 had not forgotten Romário, in a post on Instagram: « Much respect for Romario, one of the best strikers of all time.”
