Wolfgang Holzhauser, former executive director of Bayer Leverkusen, has launched a competitive proposal to, in his opinion, offer greater emotion to the Bundesliga, where Bayern Munich have been champions for nine consecutive seasons.
“The top four would play a semi-final after the regular season: the first against the fourth and the second against the third. The winners would play the final and the losers would compete for third and fourth places. This format would be exciting for fans. It can’t be in everyone’s minds that everything is decided in October. You can’t solve this problem financially, but we can solve the sporting part”, he explained, in an interview with the Spox TV channel.
The official admitted that the strongest clubs will hardly agree with this proposal, but stressed that “it is not about taking anything away from Bayern”. “It is necessary to generate new income and redistribute it”, he highlighted.
