THE BALL – Mourinho’s rule that Terry never forgot (England)

John Terry wants to be the head coach and has José Mourinho as one of his greatest references. In an interview with the British daily The Times, the current assistant coach of Aston Villa and former Chelsea center and captain, champion with the Portuguese in 2005, 2006 and 2015, recalled a detail that, in his view, helps to understand what is the pragmatic philosophy of special one.

«He always said to me and Cahil [o outro central dos blues] that when there were five minutes to the end of a game in which we were winning, that after a cross to our area we should both head the ball and then stay on the ground. ‘If they are both on the ground, they cannot leave the field,’ he explained. We didn’t know that rule! », He said.

«There was a time when this happened. We both went to the ball, we fell, I asked Gary [Cahill] as he was, he told me he was fine and I answered him to stay on the floor. The referee came and told us ‘go, you two have to leave the field’ and I ‘no, this is against the rules’. The judge starts to think and answers ‘it is true, they are right’. This is to explain how much Mourinho knew. It was a way of wasting time, something that can make us win or lose a game », underlined the former English international, now 40 years old.
