British sprinter Mark Cavendish, 36, will return to the Tour d’Italia, nine years after his last participation, announced this Monday, the team he represents, Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl (Belgium).
Cavendish, who has already won 15 stages of the ‘Giro’ in five appearances, in addition to 34 victories in the Tour de France, will face five taken on Italian roads to impose himself over the finish line, according to the course of the 105th edition.
«We are going to the Vuelta a Italia with a lot of motivation. We have a good team, with Mark Cavendish as our man to win stages. He has won many at the Giro and can rely on the support of several runners in the frantic sprints. In the other stages, we will fight for every opportunity that comes our way and we will see what we can do”, said Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl sporting director Davide Bramati.
The Vuelta a Italia starts on Friday in Budapest (Hungary) and runs until May 29, with the finale in Verona.
