THE BALL – Lions criticize «parsimony» between Liga and Benfica (Sporting)

A few days away from Sporting-Benfica, the derby starts to heat up outside the pitch. In a statement, the lions criticize the rival of the 2nd Circular for refusing to comply with the agreement established between the two clubs and the League for the transfer of tickets defined after the controversy that preceded the game of the first round of the championship, at Estádio da Luz.

«Given the proposal to celebrate the same agreement for the second round match, Benfica SAD refuses to comply with what it demanded of Sporting SAD in the first round», accuse those of Alvalade, who also target the League:

«It is the second time that the League allows Benfica to be an exception in Portuguese football

The derby between Sporting and Benfica, referring to the 30th round of the League, is scheduled for 8.30 pm next Sunday, at Estádio de Alvalade.

Read the statement in full:

«Sporting Clube de Portugal – Futebol SAD, henceforth Sporting SAD, informs that in the midst of the League’s Annual Days we witnessed another round where it is very evident that in the first round Benfica SAD had the sole and exclusive intention of preventing fans from Lions did not watch Benfica-Sporting.

Let us remember that in the first round game, at Estádio da Luz, in view of the unilateral imposition by Benfica SAD to only give tickets to Sporting SAD supporters under an illegal procedure and contrary to current regulations – namely, conditioning the issuance of titles ( including outside the ZCEAP) to the sharing and processing of personal data of these supporters without any basis or consent of those concerned – an agreement was reached between the 3 parties, Sporting SAD, Benfica SAD and Liga Portugal, which obviously presupposed, at least for those who acts in good faith, that the same agreement would apply in the second round.

In view of the proposal to conclude the same agreement for the second round match, Benfica SAD refuses to comply with what was demanded of Sporting SAD in the first round, having not made any efforts to make available the platform that Sporting SAD made available in strict compliance. GDPR and current regulations.

It is therefore very clear that Benfica SAD’s only motivation was to prevent support from our fans, as it is now creating another case, not accepting a procedure imposed by itself in the first round.

It is also clear that whoever must arbitrate these differences cannot allow the free will of decisions related to the presence of fans, regardless of their club preference.

As is its prerogative, Sporting SAD only tries to win on the pitch, without ever trying to get outside aid to do so and, for that reason, it will deliver tickets in the same model as it does for all other clubs. However, it cannot fail to highlight the real reasons behind Benfica SAD’s decisions and the parsimony that the League adopted in this matter. It is the second time that the League has allowed Benfica to be an exception in Portuguese football.”
