Briton Lewis Hamilton will remain behind the wheel of Mercedes until 2023, after the renewal of the contract was made official this Saturday.
The seven-time world champion team ended all rumors surrounding Hamilton’s continuation at the weekend of the Austrian Grand Prix.
The 36-year-old British driver has 77 wins, 74 poles and six world titles in Mercedes (2014, 2015, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020) in his curriculum, having also won a title in 2008 with McLaren.
“It’s hard to believe that I’ve been working in this incredible team for almost nine years. Time really does fly. I am happy and excited to announce that I will continue for another two years. We’ve achieved so much together, but we still have a lot more to do, both on the track and off. I am incredibly grateful and proud of Mercedes’ support and the way it has helped me to improve diversity and equity in sport. They took important steps in creating a more diverse team and an inclusive environment. Thanks to all the talented and dedicated individuals at Mercedes, whose hard work makes all of this possible, and to the management for their continued trust in me. We are entering a new era, but we also have a sport that is coming together for positive change and I can’t wait to see what else we can achieve together,” the pilot wrote on Instagram.
