Fenerbahçe have not been happy with the return of the Turkish Super League. Jorge Jesus’ team was defeated this Saturday at Trabzonspor (current holder of the title) by 0-2, putting their leadership at risk.
Defeat closely linked to the sending off of Portuguese midfielder Miguel Crespo, at the sight of his second yellow card, for stepping on an opponent, in the 57th minute. Anticipating trouble, Jorge Jesus quickly swapped Belgian striker Batshuayi for Brazilian midfielder Lincoln (formerly of Santa Clara), but Trabzonspor would score soon after, in a move that left many wondering if they could be offside.
Uruguayan Maxi Gomez, launched by Bakasetas, escaped Fenerbahce’s defense and, when the goalkeeper came out, shot just wide. Already in injury time, after playing on the left wing, the Egyptian Trezeguet confirmed the triumph of the hosts.
The defeat, the second in a row in the league, leaves Fenerbahçe leading with 29 points, but now at the mercy of Galatasaray (27), who will host Istanbulspor this Sunday. Trabzonspor now have 26 points.
