John Textor, majority shareholder of SAD do Botafogo, made statements to journalists after the defeat of stovecoached by Luís Castro, in the reception to Fluminense (0-1).
The American businessman said that James Rodríguez, currently at Al-Rayyan, from Qatar, refused the club’s first proposal: “James wants to return to Europe, he is not ready to come to Brazil. We’ll see what proposals you get, but we’ll keep an eye out.”
John Textor assured that Botafogo will continue to try to sign strong reinforcements for the transfer window, which opens on July 18: «I’m going after players who have a 2% chance of coming. If I dream of Cavani or James Rodriguez, I will try to bring them. It is irrational for someone to say that this is a failure. We will continue to try to bring in players of that quality, who transform the team.”
One of the players with whom Botafogo negotiated was Zahavi, a former PSV striker. The Israeli, after months of negotiations with the Brazilian club, preferred to return to his native country and reinforce Maccabi Tel Aviv.
“We have a plan B and a plan C for Zahavi. We have a limit of foreigners. We don’t want to fill a spot if you’re not a top player”, commented John Textor.
