This Sunday, the National Team completed the last training session before the quarter finals of the World Cup Lithuania 2021, against Spain, scheduled for tomorrow, Monday, at 15.30hrs, at the Arena in Vilnius.
Looking ahead to the match, coach Jorge Braz does not hide that he expects a difficult game, pointing out as fundamental the focus and commitment to being Portugal: «It will undoubtedly be an extremely competitive game, where we will have to be highly focused and committed in being ourselves so that the line tends to fall more to our side. The rigor, focus and commitment to the behaviors we have to have in a highly competitive game. Let’s say it’s a final, that’s how it’s seen… It’s these games that attract us all. This is what we work for every day! Come the game – there is still some work to do to prepare, but come the game.”
It should be noted that in 29 meetings with our brothers, Quinas team only won twice, namely on September 27, 2005, 3-2, in a preparation match, in Spain, and on February 10, 2018, 3-2, in a European match, in Slovenia. For the rest, there were four draws and 23 defeats. However, the idea that the difference between the two teams is more blurred is shared by the coach.
“Three aspects, three distinct ideas: the difference has faded because we have gone to another level, without a doubt; Spain is no longer weak – it remains for the national teams [mais organizada], if not the most organized in the world, clearly; the past doesn’t matter at all, it matters the moment – there was already a moment when I mentioned it and we realized that. If we manage to balance and be close, what matters, from now on, are the games that are made – the games of 15 or 20 years ago are of no interest at all», justified Jorge Braz.
