THE BALL – Incredible: of the 34 professional clubs, only eight make a profit (Football)

This Sunday’s edition of the newspaper Publico advances that “only eight out of 34 professional football clubs make a profit in Portugal”, a conclusion that comes out of the Liga Portugal yearbook, which points to the effects of the pandemic as the main conditioning factor for financial results.

«Even so, the clubs in the League saw their income increase».

In the report that was entitled to the front page, it can also be read that «if the analysis is made only to the League, only five of the 18 treasuries of the 1st Division end up with a profit».

More: «In the case of the League, in which clubs ended up with negative 48 million, these five sports societies represent a sharp decline compared to recent years – there were 10 clubs with profit in 2019/20 and 14 in 2018/19.”

But it’s not all bad news.

The Public explains why. “Although the net result has left most clubs short of what was desired, the study points to an increase in revenues for clubs in the League – 776 million euros, a growth of 4.4% compared to 2019/20. This cake was, as usual, created mainly by the top three, who produced 73% of this value.”
