Completing his sixth season with Benfica, Alejandro Grimaldo assumes that he is happy in the reds, but does not rule out the possibility of one day returning to Barcelona, the club where he did much of his training, before moving to the Eagles.
«I lived in La Masia, I was educated there, I learned some life values and I am very proud of the path I took there. Barcelona has always been my home and I will not close the door on a return. I won’t deny it, I’ll always take Barça in my heart. I grew up there and it’s been one of the dreams I’ve had since I was little. If I score a goal, I won’t celebrate», admitted Grimaldo on the eve of the meeting between Benfica and Barcelona, counting for the fifth round of the group stage of the Champions League.
At Benfica, the Spanish full-back managed to assert himself in European football, something that he does not forget when looking at the last few years with the eagle on his chest.
«Benfica gave me a lot. It’s a club that bet on me in a very strong way and allowed me to make the leap to the elite. I grew up as a player and as a person. I improved a lot and competed in Europe. Right now I feel at the best stage of my career, because I’ve reached some maturity», points Grimaldo in an interview with Sports world.
With about a year to go before the 2022 World Cup, in Qatar, the young Spanish full-back still dreams of being called up to the Spanish national team, something he claims to be dependent on the work he demonstrates throughout the season.
«Luis Enrique called many players, I hope I can be on some list and have an opportunity to show myself if I have a good season. He is a coach who has given many opportunities. I have to work hard to have options to reach the national team», admits Grimaldo.
