Benfica’s equalizer in Portimão, obtained in extra time of the first half, allowed Nélson Veríssimo’s team to start the comeback (win 2-1, with a goal from Gonçalo Ramos) and allowed Grimaldo to obtain a new personal career mark in the Championship, with five goals scored: Gil Vicente, SC Braga, Paços de Ferreira, Boavista and Portimonense.
The 26-year-old left-back had four goals in the Championship in the 2018/2019 season.
Grimaldo, by the way, has no peer in Portugal – no one comes close to the left-backs from scratch in terms of goals (sportinguist Nuno Santos takes five, but he played more games as a winger than as a full-back) – or, at this point, in Europe, taking into account the goals scored by left-backs in the top five European leagues, according to the UEFA ranking. Criscito, from Genoa, has five goals in Serie A, but has played more games as a centre-back than as a left-back.
His is the most delicate of the renewal processes that are on the SAD table. The left-back is a player with established credits and not just at Luz, given that there are also attentive people in the main European leagues, even more so when you know that he is just over a year away from the end of his contract. Barcelona, who saw him leave early for Luz, realized the mistake he made and Xavi Hernández could be the coach responsible for the left-winger’s return to Catalonia.
