Sony has released, this Wednesday, exclusively on Playstation 4 and Playstation 5, the new epic God of War adventure Ragnarök. In this new chapter of this “franchise” we will continue the story of Kratos and Atreus through Norse mythology. The game is now available on Playstation Store and in the usual points of sale.
All “players” can purchase between three editions:

To celebrate this special day for video games, Sony has created a special initiative at the Marquês de Pombal metro station. The carriages were decorated with skins from the kingdoms of Midgard, Muspelheim, Svartalfheim, Niflheim. Some maps of the Lisbon metro have also been redesigned and will be displayed on site in order to increase the level of immersion of those who traverse the game universe.
Not only did this initiative take place in Lisbon, the stations in New York, Rio de Janeiro, Toronto, Athens, Zagreb, Paris, Bangkok and Auckland, among others, have also undergone changes. It should be noted that the Marquês de Pombal station was the one that underwent the greatest transformation and has the largest number of God of War kingdoms.
The kingdoms in question are as follows:
Midgard: Midgard was once the realm of humans and mortals, but is now infested with all manner of creatures and monsters. The temple of Týr is located in the center of the Lake of Nine, where Jörmungandr, the great Serpent of the World, rests. Midgard is also home to Kratos and Atreus, as well as Freya’s after she was exiled from Asgard. Fimbulvetr radically changed the landscape of Midgard, freezing the Lake of Nine and covering the land with snow and ice;
Muspelheim: Muspelheim is the realm of fire and the source of heat for the nine realms. Muspelheim is the kingdom that hosts the Muspelheim Trials, a showdown for brave warriors. It is also the home of Surtr the Brave, the fire giant, and his followers. The prophecy says that in Ragnarök, Surtr will lead the fire giants to Asgard and burn that kingdom to ashes. Until then, they lie dormant in Muspelheim;
Svartalfheim: Svartalfheim is the realm of the dwarves. Dwarf ports, towns and mines are characterized by distinctive architecture and remarkable engineering feats. Of all the peoples of the Nine Realms, dwarves are the most talented when it comes to building. The passion and dedication they devote to their trades are evident in everything they create. Dwarves are stubborn and resilient, even under the oppressive yoke of the aesir;
Niflheim: Niflheim, the kingdom of fog, was once a land of fog and snow and home to the workshop of the dwarf Ivaldi, the great alchemist. When Ivaldi’s ambitions became a threat to Odin’s power, he intervened. In the ensuing power struggle, Ivaldi inadvertently poisoned the endless fog of Niflheim, turning the kingdom into a wasteland;
Also noteworthy is the partnership between Sony Portugal and the Portuguese sneaker brand, Sanjo, which has created a new model inspired by the six kingdoms present in the game. Namely, Midgard, Alfheim, Svartalfheim, Helheim, Muspelheim and Niflheim.
God of War Ragnarök is the sequel to the spectacular God of War (2018), in which Kratos and Atreus will explore the nine realms to try to avoid the end of the world. At the same time, we will see the evolution of the relationship between the two protagonists. Kratos always tries to protect Atreus from evil and war, but the task of the God of War is very complicated, because his son wants to find answers, he wants to avoid the end and ends up putting himself in danger.
The game has evolved in all aspects. In terms of weapons and the spectacular and devastating combinations we can create with Leviathan Ax and Blades of Chaos to defeat our opponents. Often one of the weapons is more effective than the other and the player must know how to choose. Using the shield also has a much greater impact and is also much more fun. There are more combinations we can do with a destructive effect on the opponent.
It is possible to evolve all weapons, shields, armor, which transform the appearance of Kratos and Atreus, and amulets. We also have the ability to unlock new techniques for our weapons. The game is more advanced in this respect and the “player” must choose between the techniques that best suit their style.
God of War Ragnarök fans and those who have never played it will also be impressed by the monsters and gods that spawn during the long campaign, which also has numerous secondary objectives to complete. This situation further increases the longevity of the game.
Sound is another aspect that increases immersion. The soundtrack quality is spectacular and fits the game perfectly. Of course, the dualsense command also makes a difference. Mainly in transmitting to the player the force with which we are hitting the opponent. It’s really amazing how we feel like we’re tearing apart a monster. Of course, we continue to have numerous fatal blow-specific animations. They are incredible and reflect how ferocious and fearsome Kratos is.
In addition to the intense battles, the player will also have many puzzles to overcome in order to move forward. You need to calm down, stop and think for a while. Listen to the suggestions of the characters who are next to Kratos at the time. The quality of the interpretations of the actors who give the voices to the Portuguese version, which are Diogo Morgado, Ricardo Carriço and Virgílio Castelo, and also to the English version should also be emphasized.
Kratos and Atreus’ journey through the various realms is incredible in terms of graphics and arguably one of the best titles to date. We find variety, opposite concepts, from ice to jungle, from destroyed to immaculate. Is fantastic. Each world also has its own specific enemies. The fauna is also always present. It is incredible the work they have done even with simple things like, for example, the animals and insects that we find in different worlds. Attention to detail is difficult to describe without forgetting so much. The quality of the work done by the Santa Mónica studio is visible.
God of War Ragnarök is one of those memorable games, with phenomenal battle sequences, but at the same time it is also the story of a father who tries at all costs to protect his son from evil. It is undoubtedly one of the best games of 2022 and this generation.
