Flamengo, coached by Vítor Pereira, was defeated in Quito, Ecuador by 0-1, by Independiente del Valle, in the first leg of the South American Super Cup (Recopa).
The only goal of the game was scored by central Carabajal (on his birthday!), at 75′, in a match played at 2850 meters of altitude and in which the home team played the last few minutes with one player less, due to the expulsion of Julio Ortiz with a direct red card (89′).
Independiente del Valle always had more ball and initiative and reached the end of the game with a total of 25 shots against eight for Flamengo. «Flamengo played badly once again and was defeated again», writes Globoesporte.
Remember that Flamengo tries to lift the first trophy of the season and ‘forget’ the third place in the Club World Cup and the defeat in the Brazilian Super Cup, against Palmeiras, by Abel Ferreira. And overcome the always intimidating 2850 meters of altitude.
The second leg is scheduled for the early hours of March 28th to 1st, at Maracanã.
