THE BALL – Five definitively approved replacements (FIFA)

The IFAB, the body that regulates the rules of football, has definitively approved the possibility that teams can make five substitutions.

The rule provisionally entered in time of a pandemic caused by the Covid-19 virus, but has now been maintained and ratified in Doha, during the IFAB Assembly.

The maximum number of substitutes on the game sheet is also increased, from 12 to 15, with the final criterion being up to the organizers of the competitions.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino said that a semi-automatic offside detection system is still being evaluated, which could be implemented as early as the Qatar World Cup.

The system would be implemented with the placement of 10 to 12 cameras at the tops of the enclosures to verify the moment when the ball is passed and touched, as well as the position of the players in relation to the virtual line.

Infantino also said that the replacement of the throw-in with the hands for the replacement of the ball with the foot, a suggestion by Arsene Wenger two years ago, will also be tested.
