THE BALL – Finals: Benfica crushes V. Guimarães, FC Porto defeats Tondela, Sporting defeats Belenenses (Initiates)

Benfica received and beat V. Guimarães this Sunday by 6-0 in the 3rd round of the final phase (Apuramento de Campeão) of the beginners’ championship. At half-time, the reds were already leading by 5-0 and the visitors always showed many difficulties in reaching the reds’ goal.

Tomás Soares scored a ‘hat trick’ and was the figure of the match, despite having left very early due to the yellow card he received in the 20th minute.

In this game Benfica showed that they had set pieces, as Tomás Soares and Manuel Sá (double) scored one of the goals from corner kicks. José Neto closed the scoring.

Three games, three wins, 17 goals scored by the reds in this final phase and zero goals conceded.

Sporting, on the other hand, playing at home and prohibited from losing points again, under penalty of seeing even more rivals Benfica and FC Porto escape, defeated Belenenses by 2-0.

A confrontation between teams that, on matchday three, would like to be higher in the leaderboard – Sporting lost in Guimarães and lost contact with the leadership, while Belenenses still hadn’t scored.

The lions went in with the aim of scoring early and even had a situation in the opponent’s small area, but it was the blues who had the most flagrant opportunity to score, in the 17th minute: Eduardo Ferreira shot in the direction of the goal, but Simão Soares appeared taking out over the goal line. And later, on the 33rd minute, he was decisive again, this time in offensive action, as the sportinguista captain shot straight to make it 1-0 through a shot from the edge of the area made possible by Chris Grombahi’s diagonal pass.

From then on, the lion took over the challenge, namely throughout the second half. In this vein, it was not surprising that the lions had reached the second goal, obtained in the 65th minute in an initiative by Estefânio Rúben on the right and then put it next to the small area for Ricardo Yordanov to shoot.

Until the end, Sporting had a couple more situations to finish and Belenenses tried, in a last effort, to reduce the difference, but the lions controlled the dispute at a little accelerated pace.

The green-and-whites thus returned to triumphs and reached the podium of the champion’s qualifying phase, on equal terms with Boavista and Vitória de Setúbal. Belenenses, on the other hand, continues without scoring in three games.

In the other game this morning, FC Porto also at home, beat Tondela by equally expressive numbers (4-0).

The eagles and lead the table with nine points (only victories), just like FC Porto..
