The FIFA Disciplinary Commission decided to punish the Uruguayans José María Giménez, Fernando Muslera, Edinson Cavani and Diego Godín due to the incidents that took place after the match against Ghana, which took place on December 2, 2022, in the World Cup.
Giménez was suspended for four games, ordered to do community service and fined CHF20,000, with goalkeeper Fernando Muslera receiving the same punishment.
Edinson Cavani and Diego Godín received a one-game ban, will have to do community service and pay a fine of 15,000 Swiss francs.
The Uruguayan Federation was also punished and in the next match of the selection will have to close the stands behind the goals, in addition to paying a fine of 50 thousand Swiss francs.
These punishments are linked to the following incidents: Giménez attacked a FIFA member, Cavani broke a television and lost control. The same happened with Muslera and Godín. Both were completely out of control, after two alleged penalties were not pointed out at the end of the match, and the Uruguayan team would eventually fail to qualify for the round of 16.
