The ball fell on the wicketkeeper’s glove; The team lost five runs

In cricket, along with rules that are a boon to teams, there are also some that can become villains at the wrong time. An interesting incident took place during the England-Pakistan match in the Women’s Twenty20 World Cup. England won the game by a huge margin and booked their ticket to the semi-finals, but the five-run pack that went in vain in the meantime will double the loss.

The controversial incident took place in the 15th over during the English batting. England batsman Nat Siver scored two runs after a yorker bowled by Fatima Sana to fine leg. The fielder runs the ball near the boundary and throws it to the wicket keeper. The ball got into the hands of the keeper who took off his glove to catch the ball and it fell on the glove on the ground. The umpires who saw this had nothing else to think about. England got five runs for nothing.

Batting first, England scored 213 runs for the loss of five wickets and became the first team to pass 200 runs in the Women’s Twenty20 World Cup. Siver scored 81 runs off 40 balls and became the man of the match. Danny Wyatt and Amy Jones scored 59 and 47 respectively.

Batting in reply, Pakistan’s counter-attack ended in 99 runs.

With England winning the game, the World Cup became the first semi-final line-up. England’s opponents are also known when India face Australia.
