Buffon needs no introduction. The 43-year-old Italian international was on a high this Saturday, praising fellow countryman Gigi Donnarumma, named by many as the successor of this reference in the goal of Italian football. The former AC Milan player, who moved to PSG, has everything to evolve and after being voted best player at the last European Championship, Buffon has raised the bar.
“In my opinion it can clearly win the Golden Ball. For the quality it has and what it has already shown, it should aim for the Golden Ball,” said Buffon in an interview with Sky Sports Italy, continuing with the praise: “When you’re young, the goal should be not to be content and aim as much as possible . That’s what Donnarumma must do.”
Out of curiosity, the Golden Ball, an award given since 1956, was only given to a goalkeeper on one occasion. We are talking about Lev Yashin, Russian football legend, in 1963.
