Darwin Núñez left Benfica in the summer to join Liverpool and, in an interview with Sky Sportsadmitted that it has been a difficult adaptation.
“I still have a lot of things to work on, like, for example, finishing. Still, I think what is happening to me also happened to [Luis] Suarez. In the second year, it exploded», he began by saying, remembering his passage through Luz:
«Something similar had already happened to me at Benfica. The first year went really badly for me, and the second year I exploded. Here, I think the same is happening. I hope the next season will be like that. I will do my best and hope to have some luck », he pointed out.
The Uruguayan international also revealed Otamendi’s advice when he left Benfica for the Premier League: «The league is stronger and more competitive. Otamendi told me that, but I still didn’t expect it. He impressed me a lot. There are no bad teams. Football is more complicated than in Portugal and more competitive », he concluded.
Darwin represented Benfica in the 2020/2021 and 2021/2022 seasons. In the first season with an eagle on his chest, he scored 14 goals and provided 11 assists in 44 matches. In the second, he participated in 41 games, having added 34 goals and four assists.
