Restrictions imposed in New Zealand due to the Covid-19 pandemic forced Auckland City to withdraw from participating in the Club World Cup, a competition that will take place from February 3rd to 12th in the UAE.
The New Zealand government keeps its borders closed and imposed mandatory quarantine on those who enter the country, measures that led Auckland City, record holders of the Oceanian Champions League, to abdicate from participating in the competition.
With the departure of Auckland City, FIFA confirmed that AS Pirae, from Tahiti, will become the representative of Oceania in the Club World Cup, joining Palmeiras, by Abel Ferreira, and Al Hilal, by Leonardo Jardim. Chelsea, Monterrey, Al Ahly and Al Jazira also participate.
