The ghost called the 3rd qualifying round and ‘play-off’ of access to the group stage of the Champions League could haunt Benfica once again… and the second round of the Championship has barely begun. The draw with Moreirense (1-1), last weekend, cost two points and the removal of the places that count the most: the first, because it is what gives access to the title of champion, and the second, because it allows, even so, go down with less bang and sow seeds (read millions of euros) for the future, given that it also guarantees direct entry into the group stage of the Champions League. And for those who don’t remember, Benfica, because of their presence in the group stage, immediately cashed in €37 M.
Third place and the distance to rivals – FC Porto at nine points and Sporting at six – inspire, therefore, concern in the Benfica SAD, which knows very well what it is to suffer with the risk of being able to miss the millionaire competition.
