The Public Ministry (MP) suspects that the sale of 25 percent of the capital of SAD do Benfica to businessman John Textor was set up by Luís Filipe Vieira and José António dos Santos.
Carlos Janela and Hugo Ribeiro, the latter responsible for the internationalization of the Benfica brand, were the intermediaries, and the MP believes that both would profit from the deal.
«It is possible to verify that both Carlos Janela and Hugo Ribeiro intend to obtain dividends from the business to be carried out between SL Benfica SAD and future international partners, with the intervention of the new shareholder John Textor and with the endorsement of the president Luís Filipe Vieira . To inform the latter of the perspectives that could manage these businesses», it can be read in the process to which A BOLA had access.
João Carlos Quinta, Textor’s lawyer, considered that Carlos Janela was not the right person to advise the American.
