The Canada team, of Stephen Eustáquio (FC Porto) and Steven Vitória (Moreirense) missed the match, on Sunday, against Panama, because they decided to go on strike to try to solve internal problems.
According to the local press, the reason the players refused to play was related to issues related to compensation for athletes, prizes for participating in the 2022 World Cup and distribution of income with the women’s team.
The players published a letter apologizing to the fans for the game being cancelled: “It is a great privilege and responsibility to represent and play for our country. We acted in your defense, in ours and in future generations.”
