Alone leader of the Eredivisie, Ajax continue to dominate football in the Netherlands. With the victory at home of Willem II (1-0), on matchday 23, the Amsterdam emblem broke an unbeaten record away from home in the Dutch league.
All in all, Ajax haven’t lost any of their last 26 visits to their opponents, adding up to a total of 22 wins and four draws, something that no one had achieved. The most emblematic was the triumph in Eindhoven, against PSV (2-1), on 23 January, which allowed Erik Ten Hag’s men to regain first place.
You really have to go back to October 4, 2010, on matchday four of the 2020/21 season, to see Ajax’s last away defeat, this time against Groningen (0-1). A warning for Benfica, who welcome the Dutch this Wednesday, in the first leg of the round of 16 of the Champions League.
