The Governor of Mendoza, Alfredo Cornejo, accompanied by the Minister of Energy and Environment, Jimena Latorre, successfully concluded his official visit to London, within the framework of the London Metal Exchange Week 2024 (LME Week), one of the most important meetings of the mining sector globally. The Administration and Finance Manager of Impulsa Mendoza Sostenible SA, Sebastián Piña, was also part of the delegation.
During this week, the Mendoza president presented the opportunities that the province offers for the development of sustainable mining, attracting the interest of mining companies and international investment funds.
This trip is in addition to previous missions in Canada and Australia, where Mendoza has been promoting its mining potential, especially with regard to copper, a key resource in the global energy industry.
In London, Cornejo and Latorre participated in multiple activities and strategic meetings with the world’s main mining and financial companies, including Glencore, BHP, Codelco, Anglo American, Rio Tinto, and investment funds such as Stonex and Banco Santander. These meetings were aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and promoting investment in sustainable mining projects led by the province.
The minister assured that “the mission in London was positive for Mendoza and Argentina,” and at the same time emphasized the global need for critical metals. Thus, he mentioned that the Province seeks to attract investments for modern and sustainable mining, emphasizing infrastructure and legal security in the province.
Promotion of sustainable mining in Mendoza

This plan seeks, in addition to generating quality employment, to contribute to the global energy transition, prioritizing environmental care and the implementation of international standards.
By way of balance and closing, Governor Alfredo Cornejo remarked that in London “we were able to show the financial world and the most relevant companies in the sector, our sustainable mining project. “Mendoza has mining wealth, especially in copper, which is key to the energy transition that the world needs.” And he assured that from the province “we can contribute to the environment and, at the same time, generate quality jobs for the people of Mendoza with salaries higher than the average of other sectors. Bringing mining to Mendoza will increase our average salary and generate multiple benefits for the province.”
The Mendoza president also highlighted the importance of guaranteeing a legal framework that offers security to investors and implementing sustainable environmental practices. In this sense, he mentioned that “only large companies, with financing capacity, can operate under the international standards that we demand. in Mendoza, with rigorous environmental care.”

The Minister of Energy and Environment, Jimena Latorre, meanwhile, also highlighted the achievements of the official mission by mentioning the mining investment opportunities in Mendoza at a global level, “showing that we work on a long-term mining promotion policy, based on sustainability.”
In this way, the official explained that they held meetings with leading companies such as Glencore, BHP, Codelco, and Anglo American, and also with investment funds that recognize the province’s potential to develop mining projects with all the necessary guarantees.
Latorre also highlighted the importance of strengthening institutions and professional training, citing as an example the meetings held with the London School of Economics to generate educational and training links in mining. “It is essential to have trained professionals and continue generating an environment conducive to investments, with good connectivity, infrastructure and a solid business network,” he assured.
Governor Alfredo Cornejo’s trip to London reaffirmed Mendoza as an attractive destination for mining investment, with a strong commitment to sustainability and generating the necessary conditions for the development of the sector. Mendoza officials presented the opportunity to develop this industry in the province while ensuring respect for the environment and better working conditions for Mendoza residents.
