To investigate further, Joey underwent a liver ultrasound and consulted other doctors. Fortunately, they ruled out serious conditions like hepatitis but diagnosed him with Gilbert syndrome. According to the Mayo Clinic, Gilbert syndrome is a common and harmless liver condition in which the liver fails to properly process bilirubin. It is an inherited genetic condition that often goes unnoticed until raised bilirubin levels are discovered through a blood test. Importantly, Gilbert syndrome does not require treatment.
