[AFP = 연합뉴스]– Local media reported on the 21st (local time) that a supersized whale carcass was found on the southern coast of Italy and environmental experts are investigating the cause of death.
The whale, which was collected off the coast of Sorrento, is known to be 20 meters long and weigh at least 70 tons.
Coast Guard said it was one of the largest whales ever found in the Mediterranean Sea.
The whale was first discovered by a diver of the Coast Guard on the 17th, and after a long towing operation, it was transferred to the land at dawn on the 20th.
The Coast Guard said, “At the time of discovery, a small whale exhibited very unstable behavior, such as hitting itself against the wall of a port, and disappeared.”
In response, experts estimated it to be the baby of a dead whale. Marine biologists and other experts plan to autopsy the carcasses of whales to determine the exact cause of death.
