On July 14, Tiffany Chen, Robert De Niro’s partner, spoke on the well-known American show ‘CBS Mornings’ about the birth of their daughter. After talking about her pregnancy, childbirth and the postpartum period, Tiffany tried to present her three-month-old baby to the viewers. The moment turned awkward when the host, Gayle King, lifted the baby’s head to the camera and shouted, “Look Gia, you’re making your TV debut!”
The moment immediately caused a lot of discomfort among viewers. On Twitter, many people commented that the only three-month-old baby does not belong in a television program at all. “Because the girl is still too young to decide for herself, she should be kept out of the public eye,” the criticism sounded. Or also: “Who cares about the privacy of little Gia Virginia? As a public figure, Robert De Niro should know better.”
After this much-discussed scene, the interview continued and Tiffany Chen talked about the health problems she has been experiencing since giving birth. Tiffany suffers from what is known as Bell’s facial palsy, in which half of the face can ‘collapse’ due to muscle weakness. “When I got home, my tongue felt strange. A tingle, I felt numb,” she said on the show. “Then I realized my face looked strange. I felt like it was melting. I called my doctor, who immediately sent me to the emergency room. I had lost all facial functions by the time I entered the hospital.”
Robert De Niro is the father of six other children from different relationships. With his first wife Diahnne Abott, he has a 51-year-old daughter and a 46-year-old son. With his ex-girlfriend Toukie Smith, he has twins, Julian and Aaron, aged 27. And with Grace Hightower, his second wife, he has a 24-year-old son and an 11-year-old daughter.
